What are you working on right now?
I'm building a public art project that will be installed this fall at the Tonnelle Av Light Rail Station in Bergen County. This sculpture is in the form of a house, is constructed of aluminum with a red tin roof, and will be the size of a small garage. It's covered with patterns evocative of the night sky, train route maps, and train wheels. These patterns are cut through the walls of the house, and the whole thing is illuminated from the inside, like a (railroad) lantern. At night, the sculpture will glow with light, casting patterns over the ground and the sidewalk that the commuters are walking on.
What would you like to say about Manufacturers Village Artist Community?
What a joy to be working in the same building with so many other creative people. It's inspiring and supportive, and just makes me want to make more art.
Have you seen the work of John Parris? If not, check it out. John is a brilliant artist and sculptor using forms we see everyday to make sculptures that change the way we look at the world. He's right here at MV too.
What's next for you?
I'm planning to take Brooklyn by storm in March of 2021, with a show at Gallery 490 on Atlantic Avenue.
